About Us

Our Philosophy

‘Climb mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off you like autumn leaves’. John Muir (1901)

This quote by John Muir embodies what climbing and mountains meant to us. We believe that being active in the outdoors, regardless of the activity is fundamental to our health, well-being, and development as people. We care passionately about the environment and the courses and activities we offer and aim to build strong and lasting relationships with all of our clients. We always strive to be honest, friendly, and professional.

Wes Hunter

Adventure Hunter was founded by Wes Hunter; a passionate climber, mountaineer, and fully qualified Winter Mountaineering & Climbing Instructor (WCMI). Wes has been working in the outdoor sector all of his working life and loves it as much today as he did when he first started back in the mid-’90s. Wes began rock climbing in the Lakeland fells as a child and has climbed extensively throughout the UK, as well as trips to Europe, Nepal, Morocco, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and California. Wes loves all aspects of climbing and mountaineering and the diverse and evolving nature of the sport. He is also one of the Lake District National Park Authority Fell Top Assessors and works throughout the winter gathering meteorological data from Helvellyn for the Weatherline service as well as running winter skills courses.

Duane Moran in his natural habitat

Duane Moran

The newest member of the Adventure Hunter team. Duane’s background in the outdoors goes all the way back to his early childhood camping around the UK and the French Alps with his adventurous Dad! This early introduction to the outdoors led Duane into kayak clubs and then onto work experience at Keswick Climbing Wall in 1997 where he first met Wes. Duane discovered climbing at this time then quickly developed a lifestyle around it. Fast forward 25 years and he’s still wearing harnesses, sometimes in a wetsuit! Like Wes, Duane has climbed in California and liked it that much he stayed and lived there as a guide, mixing it up between climbing, surfing, wilderness trekking (with plenty of bear encounters), and most of all snowboarding. He also found time for plenty of canoeing and kayaking, including Surf Kayaking on the Pacific Ocean and five-day canoe trips down the Colorado River. Heading back to the UK in 2010 Duane made the Lake District his home where there is plenty to keep him occupied.
