Hiring a boat is the perfect way to explore Derwent Water and soak in the beauty of the Lake District from a whole new perspective. From March to October we offer canoe and kayak hire as well as paddleboard and rowing boats rentals. So, whether you’re looking for a solo escape, a fun family outing, or a thrilling group experience, we have the ideal craft for you.
Set off on a scenic canoeing adventure with our fleet of Mad River Explorer canoes, designed for stability and comfort. These spacious, high-volume boats are perfect for small groups, families, or friends looking to explore the lake at their own pace. With two seats and built-in buoyancy blocks, our canoes provide a safe and enjoyable ride for two adults. Bringing little explorers? Children between 4-12 years old can be seated between the two fitted seats, making it a fantastic family-friendly experience. Dogs are permitted in the canoes at the owners risk.
Prices start at £20 per canoe per hour with reduced rates for longer durations.

These fantastic touring kayaks are built for stability, comfort, and all-around fun on the water. They also come with top-quality lightweight paddles meaning you can go further… faster! Plus, we’ve got you covered – wetsuits are available at no extra cost to keep you comfortable during your adventure. Dogs are not permitted on kayaks.
Prices start at £15 per hour for solo ‘Nomad’ kayaks (minimum age 12 years) and £20 per hour for tandem ‘Gemini’ kayaks (minimum age 8 years with accompanying adult). Reduced rates for longer durations.
