Climb in the Mine is essentially a subterranean Via Ferrata that explores some of the vast tunnels and caverns within Honister Slate Mine. It is a great option if the weather outside is unsuitable for either of the external routes (the Classic or Extreme Via Ferrata). The route usually takes around 2-2.5 hours and is more strenuous than the external routes.
We will meet you in the large carpark at Honister and then get kitted up with harnesses, helmets, head torches, and lanyards. The start of the route is a short 10-minute walk, from where we enter the mine. The route follows some of the original mine workings where miners used to extract slate which would then be transported to the base to be processed. This unique and exhilarating route now takes a series of tunnels, vertical climbs, wire and rope bridges, and steel ladders.
