Sourmilk Ghyll scramble is recognised in many guidebooks to the Lake District. It is a fantastic scramble that is relatively technical, however, the difficulty is hugely variable depending on the line chosen and the volume of water. It can be tackled as wet or dry activity in both ascent and descent, and it can also be combined with a longer excursion onto the crags of Gillercombe above. The central slabs provide the meat of the difficulty, however, it remains interesting and challenging throughout.
Typically, we will meet you in Seathwaite (see map below) at a time of your choice. We’ll then kit you up with the equipment you need and get going. The start of the ghyll is just a few minutes walk, and the activity itself usually takes around 2-3 hours.
Due to the technical nature of this activity, we charge a flat rate for up to three participants. Please note that under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Use the enquiry form on this page and we’ll get back to you with all of the details. We require a 30% deposit to secure bookings. If you would like any more information or have a specific question, please send us a message and we’ll be in touch.
*In extremely wet conditions this activity may be cancelled for safety reasons in which case a full refund will be issued or an option to re-book.
We provide all of the safety equipment required. You will need to bring some of your own personal items including a towel and footwear that you don’t mind getting wet (this needs to be robust enough to protect your feet). We also advise bringing a packed lunch including a drink.
