Guided Winter and Ice Climbing
Winter Mountaineering & Ice Climbing
Cold Mountains. Classic Lines. Winter Adventure.
Scottish winter climbing is one of the most challenging and rewarding forms of climbing in Britain. It demands a unique combination of movement, judgement and mountain craft — and offers a lifetime of adventure in some extraordinary places.
We offer bespoke winter guiding and instruction, tailored to your experience and ambitions. Whether you’re taking your first steps with crampons and ice axes, looking to develop your winter climbing, or have a particular route or mountain in mind, we’ll build the day around you.
Scottish Winter Climbing
Scotland is at the heart of British winter climbing, with an extraordinary variety of snow, ice and mixed climbing across its mountain ranges.
We can choose objectives to suit your experience, ambitions and the prevailing conditions, from straightforward mountaineering routes to steep, technical lines.
Just as importantly, we’ll share the skills, judgement and decision-making that go into climbing safely and efficiently in the winter mountains. A single day can be a great introduction, while several days allow us to explore further, develop skills and make the most of changing conditions.
Winter Climbing in the Lake District
When winter arrives in the Lakes, familiar mountains take on a completely different character. Good conditions can produce everything from straightforward mountaineering to technical snow, ice and mixed climbing.
Areas such as Great End and Helvellyn can hold winter conditions when much of the surrounding landscape is relatively lean, while a good freeze can bring many more crags and classic lines into condition.
Lake District winter climbing is particularly suited to making the most of short periods of good conditions — choosing the right venue and objective on the day.
Winter climbing is as much about judgement and experience as technical ability. Conditions change, plans evolve and sometimes the best day isn’t the one you originally expected.
Drawing on decades of winter climbing and mountaineering experience, we’ll help choose an objective that fits your ability, aspirations and the mountains on the day.
