Norway Ice Climbing Overview
Norway offers some of the finest ice climbing in Europe, set amongst frozen valleys, deep forests and spectacular winter landscapes. From accessible single-pitch waterfalls to long, committing multi-pitch routes, it is an extraordinary place to climb.
The Rjukan Valley is at the heart of our Norway programme, with hundreds of frozen waterfalls and an exceptional concentration of routes across the grades. Having returned with clients over several winters, we know the climbing, conditions and logistics well and can make the most of each day.
Beyond Rjukan, bespoke trips to other parts of Norway can also be arranged, opening up quieter venues and more remote objectives. Wherever we climb, the landscape is an important part of the experience. Norway in winter has a genuinely wild character, with snow-covered forests, frozen rivers and the possibility of encountering wildlife such as moose, reindeer and, with considerably more luck, the elusive Eurasian lynx.
Trips typically run from mid-January to mid-March and can be tailored from an introduction to ice climbing through to multi-pitch climbing and more ambitious objectives. No previous ice climbing experience is necessary, although some rock climbing and/or mountaineering experience is required.
Technical climbing equipment can be provided, with prices covering guiding and instruction. Get in touch to discuss dates, experience and the kind of Norwegian winter adventure you have in mind.
