Canoeing in the Lake District

Group canoeing on Derwentwater

Activity Overview

Whether it’s paddling quietly over still water or negotiating rapids on a river, there are few activities that facilitate connection to the natural environment quite like open canoeing. With its numerous large lakes and a network of beautiful rivers, canoeing in the Lake District has to be one of the top places to give it a try. We offer bespoke canoeing activities, trips, and longer expeditions tailored specifically for you and your party.

We will show you how to manoevre a canoe using a variety of paddle strokes and how to ‘trim’ the boat to be more efficient in windy conditions or perhaps even put up a sail if conditions allow. Perhaps you’d like to go on a journey and visit one of the islands where we can show you some bushcraft skills, such as how to build a shelter and light a fire using a fire steel to boil water in a kelly kettle and make a well-earned brew. This is a great activity for friends and family!
